The Wisdom of Zero-Zero

Updated: Jul 7

Divinas, Peace and Blessings

I'd like to share a personal reflection that emerged for me during a quiet, restful moment following the NY Knicks Championship.

Throughout the NBA Finals, every New York Knick player used the phrase "Zero-Zero" when asked about the next game. Their message was simple: no matter what happened—whether the previous game was a great victory or a disappointing loss—the next game begins at zero-zero - the score is reset. The focus returns to the present moment and to what is right in front of them.

There is wisdom in this for all of us. How often do we carry past disappointments, mistakes, or even successes into the future. Being present invites us to let go of what has already happened and give our full attention to the next step. Whether we're working on a project,  tending to our to-do list, or pursuing your heart's desire, a "zero-zero" mindset helps us stay disciplined, focused, and fully engaged in our lives.

As the Vietnamese Buddhist monk and peace activist Thich Nhat Hanh beautifully wrote(I love this quote)  "The present moment is the only moment available to us, and it is the door to all moments."

It's a wonderful mantra not just for basketball, but for life. Every moment offers us another opportunity to reset the "score"—to release past disappointments and victories, and embrace the gift of this present moment.

Today's invitation: Connect with the wisdom of Zero-Zero.

Breathe deeply. Be present. Begin again.
