Inspired by the New York Knicks

As many of you know, I am a devoted New York Knicks fan. On Wednesday night, we witnessed something extraordinary during Game 4 of the NBA Finals. The Knicks found themselves trailing the San Antonio Spurs by 29 points—a deficit that seemed almost impossible to overcome. We were all nervous! In fact, I had to shut off my TV for a while and regroup. 😊
Yet, with New York grit and belief in themselves, the Knicks refused to give up. Rather than focusing on the size of the gap, they stayed committed to the next play, the next basket, the next possession. They simply kept chipping away until they achieved what many thought was impossible: The Win. The largest comeback in NBA Finals history.
As I listened to the post-game interviews, I was struck by a phrase repeated by player after player: "We just kept chipping away." Their focus wasn't on the 29-point deficit. It was on one basket, one play, one possession at a time, while never losing sight of the ultimate goal.
Their mindset resonated deeply with me and offered unexpected inspiration as I begin this new chapter called retirement.
Like many of us, I have a list of projects, ideas, and dreams that have been waiting for more time and attention - one of which has been to create more space in my home—clearing, organizing, reconfiguring rooms, and creating a home office that reflects this new season of life. Rather than pressuring myself to tackle it all at once, I started with the smallest space: the bathroom.
I spent hours cleaning, sorting, organizing, and clearing out what no longer serves me. By the end of the day, I felt a sense of accomplishment—not because the entire house project was finished, but because I had begun. That first step inspired me to continue chipping away at the larger spaces, with intention rather than pressure.
It reminded me that meaningful transformation rarely happens all at once. Whether we're creating a new vision, healing, learning, or stepping into a new chapter, progress is often built through small, consistent acts.
One choice. One action. One moment at a time.
Perhaps that's the lesson the Knicks offered all of us this week: Don't be discouraged by the size of the challenge before you. Keep your eyes on the larger goal, but focus on the next right step.
Keep showing up. Keep believing. Keep chipping away!
